Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

Is it usual for calls to abandon nests two weeks into brooding? My silver hen has vanished and I'm trying to determine if she was ducknapped. Her nest was in a cat box so covered from overhead, no access for dogs or foxes to the yard and we have a large crow population that keeps the birds of prey away. There are no feathers we heard no unusual noises and she was spotted earlier today. I've kidnapped the eggs as it's night time and early spring so I figured incubator is better than leaving them out in the hopes that she shows up. She isn't in either of the ponds or the feeding areas, I've had ducks go ninja before but in my experience broody calls are not ninja quiet they are loud and fussy from the time they hop off the nest to the time they hop back on.

Oh Fizz, I'm so sorry...I wish I knew what could have happened. Have you candled any of them to see if they're still alive? Where was she spotted earlier before she disappeared again?

The movement was slugish but the eggs were cold so I popped them in the incubator. I'd have rather put them under a broody because my incubator rates aren't great only about 50% on average.

She was near the chicken tractor looking at the ducklings. All the grown up ducks seem to like checking in on them occasionally.

Do
Yeah <3 They've got a sweet indoor setup, too! Makes me think I should just convert my entire downstairs into a duck zone, it's an open floor plan anyhow :p
Do it. That would be so much fun for you guys and the little ducks, too. For that reason, they should help with mortgage and chores.

Has she appeared back home yet? That makes me sad she was checking on the ducklings and hasn't been seen since.

nope no sign of her I think she's been duck napped.

Maybe you should keep looking. I don't want to give you false hope, but a woman came over yesterday and bought one of our little drakes to replace her drake that had gone missing 3 days ago. Then she called last night saying she needs to return him because her missing drake had come home.

yeah you never know we've had ducks go ninja and then reappear when we thought they'd vanished but the fact that she ditched a nest has me worried.
