Fawn is with her babies I just snapped a pic while she was being outraged by the move. I carried her out of the box but at the same time as the ducklings, if you carry them in the box sometimes babies get squished and hurt by mums outrage at the new mobile digs. I put the box with the ducklings down then pop her outside, good mother ducks always go to the peeping babies you just have to wait for them to start hatching so she knows what they sound like.

What was the cute thing doing during her outrage? I never would have known you'd have to separate them like that for the carrying. Good to be safe. I guess she just wants to be alone with them to fuss over them? I think she is so sweet. Very attentive little Fawn.

tagged me on this, so I'll respond to it. Those aren't a particular recognizable color of Call. They're mixes from different varieties, probably not mixed just in the first generation. They may have been from a place that allows all their varieties of Calls to breed freely and has for more than one generation.

I'll take a guess that the progeny will mostly be brown with some amount of bib since the bib will be dominant. You could see some that have the wild type since these are both mixes, meaning they'd have the eye stripes and more pronounced speculum. It's possible you'll end up with some ducklings that have some black markings/spotting, but that's hard to say without knowing what's in the drake's lineage.

Are these by any chance Aussie Calls?

Yes, they did come from a place that had all the colours mixed. I was hoping to get chocolate coloured calls like the drake on the left. Any chance of that?

When fawn is outraged she runs amok. Or maybe I should say she goes quackers. She runs around the base of the offending thing. It's not always a person. Quacking her little head off at full volume and taking the occasional nip. Luckily she heard the babies calling so it didn't last for long. She's been known to follow people to the house to continue telling them off

The drake isn't actually "chocolate," but if you mean will you end up with offspring that are primarily brown, yes, there's a good chance some of them will be. It's always exciting to get babies regardless what color they are.

Wow. That is so cute and funny. Now I have heard that female Calls are loud. I actually have never seen one in real life. But I have seen videos. Still, that is no substitute for the real thing. So is she super loud? I can imagine her running around mad and her bill opening and closing as she is quacking loudly. Then she follows people. She is brave and feisty. It is still cute. Sweet bird she is.

How long will she be attentive towards the babies? Is there a point where a parent duck kind of shoves their kids off?

If we don't sell the babies they will all flock together but she'll gradually stop trying to protect them from everything around the time they get feathers in my experience by that stage they are not much smaller than her. That is the last parenting behavior to stop.

That is almost what I thought. I guess as they feather out, they are obviously bigger but it means they can be on their own to eat, swim, etc.

brand new baby duck right out of her shell. Her mother had hopped off the nest for a poo and a swim clearly unaware that she was so close to hatching. We had to stop her from running around the yard saying 'are you my mother?' to everything that moved. I think she's going to be a little magpie I'll post another picture tomorrow after she fluffs up.
