Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

Hi there my call duck has been sitting on 10 eggs now for 26 days and nothing has come. She has freaquently been getting off the eggs for about half an hour before I get worried about the eggs and put her back in the coop. What should I do and will they hatch as she has been off them so much? Thanks.

Have you candled the eggs while she is off to see if they're viable or still alive?

I wouldn't worry about her spending some time off them each day, that's healthy for a setting duck... some of mine only take short breaks, but my best and most experienced ones will be off for a couple to a few hours at a time with no issues for the eggs... :)

I just candles 1 of the eggs and it has a chick in it and looks like it will hatch soon. It is three quarters full of black and their is a small air gap at he top, is that ok?

How small is the gap (air cell)? Is it slanted at all? Did you confirm movement from the duckling? Just checking cuz bad eggs can look dark... I would check each one, just to make sure... and smell them, if any smell rotten they're most likely bad...

Oh, and 26 days is not set in stone... it can vary a day or 2...

Is it ok to disturbe her?

If she'll let you slip the eggs out from under her and back, then it's ok... otherwise you might want to wait til she takes her break... some get huffy and will leave while you check them, but good broodys will come back no prob... others will bite... ;)
I think I've seen LG get huffy in some pix. Cute little girl
