Daggone POST OFFICES!

NYRIR, I know how you're feeling. I know the wait and stress is awful when you're so worried. I got my 9 chicks on Tuesday from MPC. I don't know how they arrived so fast to Oregon from Connecticut. One day!!?? I lost my silkie the next day.

JustOneMore is absolutely right about MPC though. They are great.

I hope your girls come today and they are all strong and healthy.

I called MPC on Wednesday afternoon, when my chicks hadn't arrived, and they said they would have a tracking number on Thursday, so you might want to call them again. I called my PO, and everyone was very helpful, I was able to pick them up at the main depot when they arrived at 6pm on Wednesday.

My MPC order was late too but MPC was able to determine that they shipped Tuesday instead of Monday. My chicks arrived but they had an ordeal due to my post office who tried to deliver them (not sure why because I was told I had to pick them up) to somewhere else for someone who ordered ducks and so they were in a hot car all day until I finally received the call at 4:55 telling me to pick them up - then the carrier who drove them around all day decided to bring them to my house. My babies were dehydrated and not looking so good. Of the 25 I have lost 5. It is heartbreaking. Plus I had the very rude counter lady with the deadpan face acting like I was interrupting her day when I inquired daily about my peeping parcel. She just looked at me with that same deadpan face and without even cracking a smile....Ma'am like I told you yesterday and the day before....we will call you when the chicks come into the office in the morning." I feel like taking the dead chicks up to the office and complaining but that would be kind of gross.

Oddly, I have had no response from MPC. I sent them emails right away. My chicks shipped from Ohio and not Conneticut. So they must have come from another hatchery.

I have always had good service from MPC so I am going to wait it out.

from what i hear MPC doesnt have chicks in CT, they are not a hatchery...they drop ship from several different states.

Unless that PO has gotten in chicks before, they simply may not know the procedure. That's why the hatchery may request you contact the PO before the chicks arrive to ask them to call you when they arrive. I really don't think that a mail carrier would want to have hungry, thirsty, very loud chirping chicks in the car/truck for any length of time. From my knowledge, it seems that hatcheries ship mid-week. So, they may still be ok. Good luck!

That's what has kept us from ordering direct from a hatchery. Our Postmaster is terrible and we just cannot trust her to call us quickly if chicks come in. So we've gone to the local feed stores and either bought whatever they had on hand, or ordered through them. Big plus, they are on the hook for casualties out of the box... Of course it does cost us a little extra, but not much really.

Thanks so much to everyone for responding! I finally was able to call MPC...they were VERY helpful! Even though I had no order number,I explained the situation and she looked it up and told me the ship date had been changed but my friend never looked at the e-mail!

Soooo...the good news is...the post office is NOT to blame, and my chicks should come THIS week

I think next time I will just get the order sent here!! I worry too much!

The box I got from MPC was from Connecticut, about a 4 hours drive from my house. It took the chicks almost 3 days to get to me.
