I'm still doing research, my chickies arrive in 3/4 weeks. I think I'm prepared, coop up run is up. But I think alot of noobs are asking "silly" or "dumb" questions just to get on the forum and feel accepted into this wonderful world of chicken info. I like it here no matter what.

Any pet must come with understanding of time and need, animals take time and have needs. There will always be people who purchace a pet and then the thrill is gone and the work begins. The best thing is to educate and help people understand the need. That is what the forum is for. If we scold all new comers they may decide that they are unwanted, and those pets, (chickens in our case) go to a shelter or are abused by neglect. No person is above learning and education; and a great teacher is one that sees the challenge and the need, and tries to help educate no matter the level of the persons knowledge. I'm still learning and I say thank you to everyone that has helped me, it took their time to answer my questions, and I am a better chicken person for it.
Thanks Everyone.

I am going to step in here after monitoring this thread. since it started.

I hear the frustration in Robin's post loud and clear.
Anyone who does rescue work will tell you and show you pictures of the heartache associated with impulse purchases, especially in the week after Easter. Sometime all you can do is hold a duckling and cry as it passes into oblivion knowing that all it would have taken is a little bit of research to save it's life. A lot of us care more and differently about animals than others do and yes, sometimes the frustration shows. It especially boils to the surface in spring when the feed store are full of cute chicks and ducklings. I dread spring in that regard. It doesn't make Robin a bad person, it makes her a caring animal person. My ducks depend on me for food and water and shelter. They eat before I do, they get fresh water before I have my coffee and they get shelter at night before I even go in the house after a long day of work. To me, they come first because I can go eat a sandwich when I am hungry, but they can't scoop a bucket of feed out of the bag if their feeder is empty. I am way more patient with animals than with people who in my occasional black and white world should know better. But sometimes they don't and impulse buys happen. And that's why we are here.

That being said, we do want to help. We do want to educate. We are here to provide a web of support. We will continue to do that. We are here to answer questions and provide experiences that may help.

If your getting that upset about someone else's chickens then maybe you should check out the backyard psyco forum.

Once we stop caring about creatures other than humans, the world becomes a hateful place. Seemingly attacking Robin for seemingly attacking others is an example. Where does it end?

Any chance you could sticky those links on the General Board? Maybe under "New Members read this first" or something? Just a thought

It is a well known message board fact that no one reads the stickies.

So I am going to close this thread before more harm is done.
