Daily Duck Egg Report

Hi,

Posting for the first time here. I have 115 Muscovy Ducks, don't have a good count of the sex breakdown. I am in the high mountain desert (4000 feet above sea level) 1 hour east of San Diego, I had 14 eggs today. That ties the record from last year when I only had 35 ducks. I have 260 golden hybrid layer on order from Metzer coming on 2 April, I hope to be year round from Labor Day on.

wow how do you house that many ducks i only have 14 and am planing to house some where around the 20 to 30 range before this year is over with

I am a ranch hand on a 12 acre pastured poultry farm, my ducks are out in the open in a acre and a half pen that I put up a 8 foot high perimeter fence, I dug them a decent sized pond within the enclosure. Currently they lay most of the eggs around the support piers under the brooder building I built. When the layer 300 are of age I should have an adjoining building ready to house them internally at night.

I've posted a picture before of a giant egg in this thread, but this one tops it. 147 grams! Ouch! I'm surprised there wasn't any blood with this one, poor girl. I assume it was my Blue Swedish as the Anconas are much smaller than her.

I have folks that buy my duck eggs specifically to feed their dog and they only feed raw. My outside dogs get raw eggs all the time. The inside ones get theirs cooked cause they are spoiled (well one of inside ones, my agility dog (an Australian cattle dog), likes em raw but we have enough different stuff to do so if they get eggs it's cooked (g).
