Daily Duck Egg Report

I want some muscovies to set on eggs and sometimes its hard to tell KC from Muscovy eggs as they are sorta similar in shade. So a clutch would have a mix of eggs possibly. I didn't want KC eggs to hatch and the muscovy eggs a few days later and mom leaves the pure muscovy eggs if she thinks they aren't going to hatch when the hybrids hatch sooner or so research says. With everybody laying in the same nests it could get confusing. I'd just as soon have a KC drake and separate everybody.
Good point zook. Is that Turbo in you avatar?

No Turbo has gone a farm where he is the only drake and has his own hen and chickens for company. Our big black boy didn't take kindly to Turbo hemming in on his girls. This is him and our chooclate girl.

Our Chocolate and black girls. KC's huddled in behind.

Week for egg oddities. yesterday there was the humongous 6 oz+ KC egg and today I find in a muscovy nest 2 eggs (only one hen in that coop) , one being normal size and this little pee wee. Pictured beside yesterdays monster egg. The muscovy is not a new layer she laid last summer fall and spoarticly through the winter so far.

zook I found an egg like that before it was right when one of my Scovys was starting up laying after taking some time off, pretty normal. but wow what a difference. looks like a quail egg compared to the one that looks like a goose egg.

That's pretty funny, a giant one and a tiny one! The big one I got has two yolks in it, but I haven't cracked it open yet. I'm afraid it might be bloody inside, the last big one was.

As a side note, I got three normal sized eggs from my three girls today! Oh, and three chicken eggs from six chickens. It's funny, when we first got the ducks I never would have thought they would outlay the chickens. So far, they've largely surpassed the chickens.

4 eggs out of five ducks (considering one is broody...) is say pretty good and with then roller coaster temps her freezing the other day and and 70's today

Here is what was in that huge 170 gram egg. was going to give my dog a treat and cracked it in the fry pan. Out cae a yolk and egg white and another whole duck egg with a compete shell. I cracked that one and it had a normal yolk and egg white inside. So the dog got a real treat tonight. Pretty surprising seeing that egg fall into the pan.
