Hi all,
Given a temporary (hopefully) change in our flocks roaming space, they do not have access to grass all the time. We only have 6 hens and they are laying normally since the change over a month ago. They only get about 2-3 hours of grass roaming a day and, naturally, all greens in the run are non-existent. Their egg yolk has also gone from a golden/dark yellow to a pale yellow recently.
Since the grass restriction, I have been supplementing with more greens - mainly kale, broccoli - as well as some red cabbage, acorn and butternut squash. We got the hens back on Purina Layena pellets (had issues finding it locally) about a week ago.
How much veggies is too much? About how much should each hen get a day? It seems silly to ask this but too much isnt always a good thing.
