Dallas folks....we are having hard rains right now - more than I've seen in a while! My chicken run has stayed fairly dry with other rains, until now. 3 of 4 of my chickens were all just standing out under the coop but still getting wet....only 1 of them actually went into the dry coop. I'm sure I looked funny, but I put on dirty clothes, crap shoes and tied my hair up in a plastic grocery bag and went out to brave the storm to get the other 3 into the coop. They are all wet but hopefully happy to have been put into the dry coop where I moved the food etc. I did notice that the area along my back fence right behind my coop/run is totally flooded. My foot was covered in water. Fortunately, I've got about 6-8 inches of straw/leaves piled up in the run so I can't tell how bad it's flooded, but all around it appears flooded. Lesson............make sure you account for flooding with massive rains and major winds - I probably need to think of a way to provide something they can get into that's covered on all sides since the dummies didn't want to go into the coop.

i now know where the phrase "don't have enough sense to come in out of the rain" comes from. i too (south of fort worth) ran out in the rain. they refused to go in the coop. after awhile, i decided they're on their own. dumb birds

I'm in Grand Prairie. I came home to find wet chickens. I have a cover run/coop and a little extended run that is not covered and that's where one of them spent at least part of the day.

We have been having shocking rain in Sydney and mine stand under the deck or just out and about and I too have done the run out to 'save' them - only to be greeted with disdain that they would even consider going to bed that early! Sometimes they hang in my feed room but mostly they are out. At least with the Silkies I can plop them back inside but they whinge and shout about it. I tell them its for their own good but they don't care...
