Hi Folks,
One of my Orpington girls is broody as of yesterday & of course plucking the feathers from her breast. I noticed this evening that there are two red areas of skin where she's plucked feathers, one is circular w/ a dry, peeling patch in the middle. She is acting fine (besides annoying trying to hatch infertile eggs ;-), eating when we throw her out of the box, not obsessing over the area. I can't find anything about hens injuring themselves plucking feathers when broody, but I do see on a couple threads that theoretically they can carry ringworm. This looks like that sort of fungal infection. Likely? Or more likely that she just did a bit of damage w/ aggressive plucking?
Thanks,
Cheri
