Feather loss, warm reddening skin, the area is getting larger. Please help.

How often does she lay in the sand?
What is the bedding material in the coop and nesting boxes?
What do your roosting bars look like?

Sounds like she's doing o.k. she may have rubbed off feathers over the course of the last 2 months getting into and out of the nesting box daily.

The redness is a bit of concern, is the sand damp?

I think I'd apply a Very Thin layer of A+D Ointment on the skin, just where it's red to help heal and sooth it.
Great questions. The sand is dry in the coop, and she doesn’t lay in that area. The roosting bars are 2x3 pieces of smooth wood. She doesn’t spend much time in the coop. If she is in the run, there is a lot of dirt and some roosting bars. Most of the day she is allowed to free range in our grassy backyard. The nesting pads are the disposable fibrous ones. When she lays, she spends 30 min to an hour in the nesting box.
I will buy some of the A+D ointment and try that. Thank you for the tip!
