****blush**** I went into someone's yard to smell their roses. I had no idea people got so mad. In my brain, nobody owns land. It all belongs to the earth.

Smelling roses and stealing eggs/produce/fruit/nuts or what have you are two very different things. One leaves the area untouched whereas the other is larceny.
As far as the earth owning the land; I'll try telling that to my town when they want to collect taxes for it. Maybe Mother Earth will fork over the cash for me.
the heck I dont own land..... I have the taxes and land payment to prove it... I have 18 acres of raw land that I write a check to the bank for and then twice a year I get an extra bill for property taxes...plus insurance costs , not to mention the amount to put improvements in ( water, electric so on) sorry to disagree but I OWN that land... until I die .... and then my kids own that land
We have a lemon tree in the front near the street. I thought it would be nice and I would not mind if the neighbors picked a lemon or two. Unfortunately strangers come by and strip it of all fruit. What are people thinking? It is one thing to take a lemon for making dinner, but to strip it, is just crazy.
This year I'm going to put a sign in it that says lemons $ .25 each please pay at the front door. Maybe they will think twice.

Entitlement mentality. The good things in life belong to those to whom they belong. Charity? Fine. But trespassing and theft? Let them eat high-pressure hose water. However, insane ideas like the nut lady's (take that as you wish) response are what socialism is based on. People own property. Get over it. Taking from others what they produce is thievery, plain and simple. I assume said lady also thinks she has a right to a beachfront mansion?
We live in a truly disturbing culture. There's a reason we planted our plum trees in our fenced-in backyard.
"attractive nuisance" is law here in Ohio.I never understood why a landowner should be held liable if unsupervised children coming into their yard get hurt. I am thinking the law does not apply to adults, but it has been a while since I read it.
I was thinking of planting plum trees at the front end of the yard.A row facing the road would look so pretty. The idea of people picking all the plums is making me rethink the planting location. People around here don't seem to know that stinging nettle stings,so it is my favorite plant for locations where I get people cutting through my front yard.
I share a lot of what I grow.I even give away eggs.Gave some to a library lady recently just for the heck of it.When people steal what I would have given....well that just drives me insane. Hope you all can keep out the 2 leggers. Lol,the big lady up the nut tree-what a picture that is.
Im in Ohio too and I think in the last 4 - 5 years the attractive nusance thing was thrown out Here is what I was told to do put up no tresspassing signs make sure they are visable all sides of property... I was told if someone trasspasses on my land they get hurt they are responsible and if I have the signs the sheriff must act if not they are still tresspassing but they are likely to get a warning now if you really want to get something done call the game warden and tell them you think they might be poachers your not sure holy cow they come down like a hammer!!!!!! I have signs that say no tress pass and also say hazardous area when I first put them up I had like 5 neighbors (we own 50AC) call up like whats hazardous and I said my 165 HP tractor and 10 foot brushhog running your kid over!!!!
