I've not had problems with people tresspassing, yet, only their stupid pets!

I did have one DUMMY come on my place while DW and I were finishing our chicken coop. I was running a saw and our backs were to the driveway so we didn't hear him until he hollers something about "wanna buy some meat". (he was selling it out of the back of his truck which is a whole 'nother thread in itself) My German Shepherd was approx. 4 feet behind him, hair standing up just waiting for him to make move on us. She never made a sound and he was completely oblivious to her being behind him. I told him to "real slow, turn around and look behind you" The color left his face in an instant. I then informed him the "KEEP OUT. PRIVATE PROPERTY" signs were on both sides of the gate he drove through for a reason. "NOW GET THE HECK OFF MY PROPERTY BEFORE I LET THE DOG HAVE LUNCH!!" Haven't had any meat salesmen since.

What is it with people who think they can just come onto your property. I heard some noises one day over by our hay barn and walked over to take a look. There was some guy there with 4 little girls (5 or 6 years old) petting the horses. The horses are loose, not in a stall, no halters, nothing (not that it would be okay then either). When I asked what he was doing, he said it was his daughter's birthday and the girls wanted to pet the horses. We have a gate near the barn, which is locked. When I asked him how they got in, given the gate was locked, he said they had climbed over the fence. I said "Where? Next to the no trespassing sign?" He still didn't have a clue. I explained that the horses could run over the kids and severely injure someone (one of the horses is extremely food aggressive and will run over anything/one to get to food and the other horses run to get away from him). He STILL didn't get it. I told him he needed to leave immediately and not come back on my property ever. So then he tells the little girls, come on, we have to leave cause the lady doesn't want us petting her horses. Yep, I'm the bad guy. So a few weeks later, I went for a walk with my three large dogs. I know where the guy lives, so I go strolling onto his property and looking at his landscaping, etc. He comes out all upset wanting to know what I'm doing. I smiled sweetly and said, well, you visited my place, just thought I'd do the same. He was no amused (but I was). Haven't seen him on our place since. Funny thing, he doesn't wave to me when we pass each other on the road anymore.

Good luck with catching your egg thief. Too bad you can't booby trap the door so when they go inside it locks from outside. Might be a cold night for them in the coop.

Have you seen those things designed to keep dogs and deer out of yards and gardens that is a motion sensor on a sprinkler head? When it senses motion it blasts the intruder with water? IF you get a camera, you'll also have to get one of these - then send it in to America's Funniest Home Videos and make $10K for your effort...
The trouble with this is that if your hens are like mine, when they're out free ranging, they each trot in to lay an egg - would be fairly rude to get a blast when you're going in to lay an egg!

Also - just as a sideways thought... are you SURE your hens aren't eating eggs? Mine have done that without leaving a trace... but leaving another egg completely untouched.

I often snicker at the thought of Freud working on the minds of hens...
