I was wanting to show at the Missouri state fair next year with my birds, but I am nervous about doing so. I've heard stories about people's chickens going missing because someone steals them. At the 2012 fair which ended a few days ago, some birds of the same breed as mine got stolen according to a rumor. The birds are there for three days, and you can't lock the pens. Does anyone know if this is true or not or if they've ever heard this happening at any shows, either bigger or smaller shows?
The only thing I can think of is to sit by my birds for those three days, then lock them up at night. Then in the morning I'll need to be there first thing to unlock them before the judge arrives for the day. Another I thought of was getting permanent leg bands, but the birds that got stolen also had permanent leg bands too...
