Just the other night here a house in the city got blasted with lightening...they were all ok but the damage to the house was great. We get some awesome lightening storms but I do go runnin' when it's close. I've had it hit nearby and it very scary.
My mom had lightening come in the window at the kitchen sink while she was doing dishes...a fireball or something?? shot across from the sink to the other counter area where the stove was and danced around on the stovetop. She wasn't hurt.
Wow, these are some scary stories! I am glad so far that no one has been seriously hurt!
Chickens were still out, so I will have to go close up later between showers. Raining off and on here for now.
This one happened a few months ago it was less than 50 yards from my tin barn. It blow the bark off some of the bark was close to the barn. I use to love to go to the barn and watch the storms but now I stay in the house
I was at summer camp a couple years ago and since it was a camp for military kids, we had a helicoptor fly into the field near the main lodge so the pilot could talk with us about it. Unfortunately, a thunderstorm came around quickly, and a few feet away from the entire group, a bolt of lightning struck and we quickly shuffled into the main lodge.
By far, the scariest encounter I've ever had with lightning is when we were driving through St. Louis. We had just past the Gateway Arch when we got onto the interstate, a rod of lightning struck next to our car. Literally, it was right next to it. Just hope that's as close as I'll ever get to lightning again.
