Hey everyone just a quick thread about my experience with wind

I got a beautifull pekin drake a few weeks ago and with some tough love he was coming around and being a good bird

Well i added wood shaving to the coop today and the man door opens with a hinge at the top and prop stick underneith.

Long story short the wind blew the door down and it was just heavey enough to pin NewBert around his chest. Suffocating him to death. My kahki campbell was honking like a nut but i was too late

I never leave that door open except today i figured it could use extra air flow. Damn.

The point is tie down, tie up, and secure everthing!

Heres pictures of him before his demise

Man you're an unlucky fellow! So sorry to hear that about NewBert!
We had a squall-line coming through last night, 40mph wind with gusts up to 50 - i was running around like a scared chicken to secure everything in advance. Two weeks ago another storm toppled over a dead tree in front of my house, taking out our telephone line. What's really bad is that my duckies seem to enjoy those winds, they have no idea how dangerous those could be…

We had our 11 ducks in the tub during Hurricane Michael but with yesterday's storm, at 9 weeks old the Pekins grew, we brought them into the Florida Room then bathed them in the tub. I never want to deal with that mess again. Hoping the duck house will be finished soon. We were wondering what other people did with their chickens and ducks during the big storm.
