d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

OK, here goes a stupid question - do D'anvers, specifically the Belgian Quail, mature faster then a standard breed? Would they grow/mature at a faster rate or they, too, start laying at 4-6 months?

most large fowl I have ever had, which isnt many are a full year to produce.

But yes on d'anvers and all bantams for that matter, by 6 months they are sexually mature. Many if late hatch, will not lay til the following spring though. Late winter and early spring hatches will usually lay a little before winter sets in though.

They do get to adult size a little quicker, but then slow way down after about month 4 and usually are fully mature by month 6-7

Aubrey, I am so happy with my Dun Quail d'Anvers. They have absolutely amazing personalities. My husband and I just fenced off a pasture for our chickens and they are so fun to watch out there with all my big girls. Carmine takes real good care of his little ladies Emily and Charlotte and he has yet to give me a hard time so all is good. I will post some pictures when I get back from vacation. Hopefully my husband keeps them to their liking while I am away

I have few questions for Aubrey if you don‘t mind.
I am getting ready to sell my roosters and I want to make sure I got them right. On two of them I am not 100% sure that are roosters, and for the other three I’m not sure on the color.

# 2 Khaki= BOY OR GIRL?
I have two on this color, and on one I'm pretty sure it's a boy, but for the other one I'm still hopping to be a girl. This one's comb it's not as big as the other one's, but it is red. So what do you think?

arianna

here's what you have

1st

blue pullet

2cd

khaki pullet in last 2 pics , I think, that one's kinda throwing me, color is roo patterened but feathers look pullet (first two do have a roo look to them??)

3rd

dun quail roo

4th

very odd colored quail pullet 9with the yellow color, most likely out of blue quail mating)

5th

dun quail roo

The hens will get the small red comb too, males will get the larger ones like in speckledhens pics above.

If you do decide to get rid of any of those khakis, let me know, I'll buy them back for sure. Had a hard time getting some for myself. Only get a handful a year and lost them all this year in that monsoon I had.

Hello Aubrey, I am pleasantly surprise to learn that chick # 1 is a pullet because I love her color. I am also quite surprised to know that chick#4 is a pullet as well. I was convinced that this one was a rooster with that big and red comb.
On the khaki I am going to sell one of them, however I have never shipped chickens before. I wouldn’t mind give it a try, I just don’t know how to do it. Also I don’t have an NPIP # so I don’t know if I can ship to other states.
Could you also tell me what color do you think is this one (I'm presuming he is a boy):
