d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Well I see that all is busy breeding and watching eggs, while I have been getting my little darlins acquainted with their new home.....IN THE YARD!!!!! They have now been out there a total of 3 days, and still following me every step each time I go out to do anything.
And "Baby" which is a very tiny Crele pullet, sits between my feet everytime I go out to do anything, I usually just pick her up and carry her around to keep from stepping on her. And yes I have to get you all some pics....JJ, I'm promising again....so sorry... NOT! Been having too much fun in the yard with my babies.
Leon says I have them so spoiled, they don't know they are chickens. Hahaha
Have a total of 6 roos and 4 pullets, man are those roos getting into chest busting, kinda look like those basketball players in the NCAA. They run across the yard, fly up and bust each other in the chest and then walk off like nothing has happened. No real fights yet, but I gotta get rid of some of these boys and I need more girls....

AUBREYYYYYYY!!!!

After many days of looking and drooling all over your pics on photo bucket, I have narrowed my choices to 3 colors. How is the supply of Quail, Splash, & Porcelain?

If I could get those colors then I would have a wonderful rainbow of colors. What I have that I am gonna keep for sure is....
1 Quail Roo - Woody,
1 Dun Mottled Roo - Roho,
2 Crele pullets - Baby & no name yet
1 Dun Cuckoo pullet - no name yet

The splash pullet that came from the hatchery is HUGE! Bigger than anything I have, so she is leaving.
The other three roos are just not as tame as the above mentioned.

So Aubrey how are those 3 colors size wise? should they all run the same? Or are some of the colors just bigger?
Your the man with the "Rainbow Chick Farm" you tell us...haha

Glad all is doing well, we are all clucky here, hope to talk to all again soon....Hopefully tomorrow!! Good night all!!
I've noticed a lot of size discrepancies over here too. My silver quail roo is I think the right size, a blue quail hen I bought elsewhere was bigger than him. The chicks I have from bought eggs that are 4 weeks old are huge, and some of the recent hatch from bought eggs are a bit big too.

Does anyone have any pictures of their birds next to a cola can or a brick or something to show the sizes of their birds? It would be very useful as I am now unsure of the size these little guys are actually meant to be!

been wondering where you have been. Glad to hear your chickens are doing well.

Bantam username, you can weight them

20 oz/570 grams for a pullet
22 oz/625 grams for a hen
cockerel the same as a hen
Cock 26 oz/740 grams

No LL,
a d'anver is a d'anver. Color shouldnt make a difference on size. They are all in the mid 20 ounce range low 20's on the hens.

Line are the difference, hatchery stock is almost always huge in bantams. Got a 3 pound old english bantam from Ideal here to prove it!! HAHA

Those 3 colors are laying decent, porcelaim real good, the other 2 so so right now.
Just say the word and we'll get some ready for you.

Oh and where you been by the way????

JJ

If you are happy with creles, I can get to your's pretty quick too, like next week quick more than likely.

If it helps, in all my pics a few pages back, the green boards at ground level are 2 x 4's they stand about 3.5 inches high also the wire mesh is 2 inch, so you can kinda scale off that a little.

Hens should never be bigger than roos though, that's for sure. If you are familiar with old english bantams, or sebrights, they are real close in size to them.
If I think about it, next pics I'll try to get a size reference for you.

Maybe Cynthia can too if she thinks about it. She takes them way more often than I do. But I still need to get JJ a red pyle pic, and I want to add the dun mottled too, so I have a few more to go.
