d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Okay, I think I need to sell off some of the males already. I have a chance for only two females in the first batch of six D'Anvers and not really 100% sure of those. How about some sexing help? They hatched March 3, so are just over 3 weeks old.

This is the eyeliner kid, who is one of the possibilities for pullet. If you think not, speak up.

This is the other one, one of the smallest, I think belonging to Carly. Pullet or no? It's the one on the left in both of the next two pictures:

And you can see I have some very definite males, no question about them:

They are still a bit young Cyn, but yes looking like a bunch o boys so far, hard to be 100% yet, I'd hate to tell you to sell them and hear back you had a girl or two in there, but the eye liner is the only girlish looking one to me so far, and MAYBE that smallest one on the left in the 2cd pics. The big wide based redder combs, well you know what they are...

JJ silver dw is one of my top 30 or so favorites too, really been wanting it in d'anver for a long time, Now I have hope at least, once I get them, then to my bb's I can make golden duckwings too, then blue ones, then dun ones, then barred versions of all,, Did I mention I'm an addict??

Cet,

Is your girl full on mottled? Lokked weak but there, we gonna call her a true full mottled

any time you breed black to blue you get 50/50 of each
any time you bred mottled to solid, you get split mottled
any time you have a split lavender to a solid, you get a few randon split lavenders, no way of knowing who

so from that you'll get half black and half blue, all split for mottled, and a handful of each color split for lavender as well.

back breed these next year blue to blue and black to black and you get more black mottled and blue mottled, and if they line up just right you may even get a lavender mottled

Cynthia - that is a sack full of roosters. Looks like the kind of luck I have.

Aubrey - I was just thinking today about what a lavender duckwing would look like, ever see one?

working on it, got a new project in the phoenix going, and plan to do the bb d'anvers once I get caught up on all the orders.
I've seen pics, looks awesome, buffs up a bb red then adds the lavender all over, really pretty, cant believe not many have done it, especially how hot lavender has been over the past few years.
will be a couple before I have any, but they'll be one here once I get done for sure.

That 2 week old is showing a lot of mottling right off, still weird to me to see that light down color, but so far the pattern looks good, as long as the white doesnt dominate the feathers you'll have a real good looking bird there

They will be darker next year, all my birds are projects.

Thank you Aubrey. She is a sleeper mottled. Daddy was a black; mom was a lavender that obviously had a mottled gene....Leaza is the result. We finally narrowed down the mom after 3 out of 8 babies were mottled.

I appreciate your explanation, sometimes the lavender mottled thingy gets confusing. I am a simple woman who deals best in simplicity...hairy legged invaded smooth legged equals surprise for JJ...that is my chicken genetics understanding. *smirk*

They won't be hairy if they make it through all the green briers and other nasty brambles to get to me. Bring on the "Pantalooned Pansies"

OMG did you see what he said to us Cynthia? Did you see what he called the offspring of the Shadow, Princess extraordinnaire? He called the children of the Princess "Pantalooned Pansies"! oooooooohhhhhhhh dem be fighting words.

Pack up Suede and My Little Love, tell them we march one month early! There will be no dissing the offspring that come from Suede's property and My Little Love's coop.

PS: Cyn he is just jealous cause his birds wear plain ole cotton boxers whilst ours wear beautiful, colorful, fluffy pantaloons....Show him the Princess' picture so he can become more envious! Even his cat is nekkid legged...look what my spy kitty found sneaking in....eeeeeewwwwwww
