d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Aubrey, I have a question about silver quail roosters. The two chicks I have seem to be getting whiter. except for a few dark feathers scattered around on them they have a columbian look to them. I have never seen any develope except the ones I have hatched and they start out black and get the white a little at a time. Just wondering which was right? Here are picture of the two males.

quail is on a columbian base, so on the males it's common to see traces of the pattern, especially as they mature.
As a chicks, yes they should be solid black with just a white cheek pattern

On the hens theres a big difference, but on the males, they will be largely white of course when they are done.
They look normal to me so far.

end product
columbian

the columbian chicks will also look totally different, more a smokey grey cast over white body. Some still have a similar pattern, but once bred columbian to columbian that quail down color goes away and they get really pale in over all color

Hi All, I have lurked over here for awhile now.  Seem to know you, but didnt have any D' anvers yet, so have just been listening.  Well Last Tues.  14 D'anvers arrived from BBB.  I now feel like I can participate over here.  WE did loos one chick the next day, the rest seem to be doing well.  A couple are not growing as fast, so keeping a close eye, but I really like these fuzy faced cuties.

Glad you have some new babies. I'm pretty new here and still mostly listen than post. Can't wait to see some pics!! What colors did you get?

Melissa

Thanks Aubrey. I guess my little brain views such things much more simply....Porcelain = Mille with Lavender gene so mille babies from Mille over porcelains, lavender or project split means porcelains are guilty of procreation hahahahaha

You men shall laugh at this...a funny for you. I took MY Jeep that husband bought me for xmas in for oil change and tire rotation. Young mechanic brings Jeep around and comes in with my keys (which have a pink whip on them) and says loudly "William Smith" I said "No, LadyHawk". He turns to look at me and says "William?" I said "No, LadyHawk". He says "The ticket says William, where is William?"

Wellllllll my little Cherokee temper started riling and upon a split second of thinking about it, was immediately pushed over the edge by that 1/4 Italian part of me and I said....wait for it cuz here it comes

"The ticket is wrong. The Jeep is mine and WILLLLLIAM is home cooking my dinner where he should be and that whip in your hand is to make sure he does it. So where is my bill?"

The three ladies sitting in the service area waiting room started chuckling, the young naive mechanic was literally blushing and stuttering so I walked over and took my keys gently from his hand and took my bill from his other hand and I smiled at him and said "Thanks, now sir if you will excuse me I will pay my bill and rush home for dinner....William will be waiting!"

Naive Mechanic -0- LadyHawk -1-

When I got home, William was indeed laughing when I told him what happened and he tried to soothe my still flared temper by taking me out to dinner! HA! So guys....why do mechanics feel the overwhelming need to make themselves out to be complete arses when it comes to females and vehicles? Or is it just a testosterone, inborn NEED they have to step all knee deep in it? I find that vehicle salesmen are identically silly. Why is this? Inquiring minds need to know the answers to these age old questions.

And now I bid thee all farewell until after the sun rises. :)

Poor mechanic didn't even know what hit him. You probably have him so cowed down, he'll be looking out from under his clipboard for the rest of the day at folks, LOL !
Well Said, too funny!

Melissa, I got Millie, Porcelain, and my favorite, Goldneck. I am working on pictures.

JJ and Aubrey, thanks for the welcome. I will mostly listen and learn, more then post. I am her usually paying very good attention as to who is who and what they are doing. Mostly that Hairy Horde invasion, that I read about

KrisH the Hairy Legged Horde is expanding and not to be trifled with. Their two commanders, orpington roos named Lancelot and Hector killed three stray kittens the other day. Kittens invaded our barn and the boys got em. They are training the Horde and our Legion O Junebug, which is a scary group too...just ask Cynthia, she knows.

Cyn, mechanic asked for it. :)

Lancelot and Hector are not to be messed with. They even kill future predators!

Oh, snapped a good picture of Mina just now that shows how her color is developing. She will be 11 weeks old Saturday. Still haven't found a home for the Little Man with my Phoenix hen. She is still being a mama even though he's over 8 weeks old now. Turned out to be a heck of a broody, that Molly!
