d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Alright enough of the morbid stuff for now. at least cocci is some what treatable. Now the "Kentucky Leg Fungus" has no cure. I got two silver blue quail just hatched and found another chick under my two broody hens today.

JJ, I'm sorry about your rooster. Yep, usually cocci is the least of our worries with chickens if it's caught in time, very treatable, though some of the little buggars don't show signs right away.

Several folks have expressed interest in Aubrey and Mina. I may keep the mille male for awhile if someone buys that pair. He's pretty calm and easygoing for a broody-raised chick and does well in that coop. We'll see how he does later when his hormones kick in-I can always hope he takes after Angus.

I'm about to lose my old Buff Orp hen who lives in there with them-she couldn't make it to the roost tonight. Poor old sweet Sunny, last of my original hens, has outlived her genetics already, but it's caught up with her at 6 1/2 years old. She's like the kindly grandmother in that pen and I'm sure her presence will be missed.

Aimee and Carly are on Day 13 and 12 tomorrow with their 4 eggs (2 each). My Blue Orp has 3 of Aimee's eggs under her on Day 12 also.

Well now you just send those babies with Leg Fungus to Kentucky where they belong JJ...I will make a good trade with ya... 8 or 10 Mille Fleur d'Anver cockerels in trade, some could be split to lavender? They are from Aubrey's stock

Cyn, you know I am so sorry but Sunny is a miracle girl to have lived so long and been so healthy. A testament to the great care your birds get. This is for you....I took it when I was visiting you...a few moments of she and I conversing on "stuff". Such a love and I am sorry Chy spelled her name wrong

Wow, that one picture compared with this one taken yesterday shows how she's gone downhill-note her comb, the shrunken size and color and the way it curves over at the back. She can't even hold her tail up straight any longer and Sunny does not have wry tail. Shadow was keeping her company while she ate a bowl of mashed up boiled eggs and yogurt. Now that there is only one rooster in that pen, Shadow's head feathers are starting to grow back a tiny bit.

This begs the question about longevity. It may be hard to ask since I realize breeders don't keep their little bantams forever, but what is the oldest D'Anver anyone here has?

Negative, I have too many Roosters now. But I may have a few roosters with the leg fungus I can send your way.

Cynthia- sorry to hear about your hen. I have a couple favorites that I hope make it that long.

Well dang it all....JJ why are you being so ornery? You know you want them. And why are you keeping young women chickens with that Leg Fungus? Admit it....you like the Hairy Legged women don't you....My Rufus thinks they are extremely sexy...the little snot flogged me, I think, yesterday when I was taking his women away to their day pen. He was punished for ungentlemanly behavior too...he got no cuddles or kiss on top of his head and NO scratch. I made him watch his women eat the scratch before I put him in there. I cannot tolerate his lame intentions on teaching me a lesson. That is a d'Anver flog is it not when they run at you like a little maniac, standing very upright and ram their chest into your leg and nip you? It is hard to tell with something this small and also Rufus confuses the situation by immediately begging to be picked up after he bites you. hahahahahahaha

Now time for a small rant....I am absolutely sick of irresponsible idiot human dog owners. Someone is missing a beautiful female rottweiller now because it decided to stroll through my barn and take a threatening position and snarl at me. Unfortunately, the same thing would have happened even if it had not snarled at me...my birds were free ranging.

Never seen this one before and I hated having to shoot it but I just will not put up with someone's dog threatening me on my property. Bill and I followed a good blood trail off into the woods but could not find her before dark, Bill found her about an hour ago.

Why can't people keep their dogs at home? It is not hard, I keep both of mine home. Sheesh

So, Kentucky Predator count for me...now stands at

Possum Me 2 my horse 1
Fox: Me 1
Coyote: Me 3
Dogs: Me 2 Visiting Cop 1
Neighbor's nasty rooster: Me 1
Coons: me 40 give or take a few

Sheesh looks like I best get another box of .40 cal ammo as I still have a couple hundred rounds for the M1.

Thats's not a flogging it's a "Love Tap", It's not a floggin till he shows you the bottom of his feet.

Does anyone know what colour this is?
Its a D'anver that hatched today and is black and white. The parents were a quail hen and a cockerel that was supposedly a buff columbian but to me looked like a millefleur without white spots
.

sorry, been gone for a while

bantam

a buff columbian is a mille with out white spots, though it shouldnt have black spots either. They look to be mottled based to me though.
Though not a black mottled for sure, those look like penguins. I'll bet it does end up being some kind of mottled looking bird though. Doesnt look to be any true color.
quail are columbian based too though, so quail to a columbian, if I'm thinking right here, should have gave more columbians??? Not sure what the heck those are??? I also see the white patched one looks to have feather stubbles on the leg. Sure it's from d'anvers?
Now the darker solid chick does look about right for a quail x columbian cross, if it was just that one you were talking about, then it looks correct for the cross.

Cnythia, to your questions about longevity, 10 years on some here. most seem to keel over before then, 8 years is a decent life. 10-14 is out of the question though. I've had lots of them make it to 14ish over the years.

JJ,
Hate to hear about the coccidia. It's horrible here. I loose a ton of chicks every year too it, even with medicated starter and daily treatments in the water... still loose them to it... think I have a super strain of it here. But it happens to all of us.
