d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Wow! So glad to hear you are okay Cynthia. You and hubby take care.
We have been using the chainsaw to cut up the two oaks that were felled by the winds here. We no longer use the firewood so have been hauling it to an elderly neighbor lady who heats her home with a wood burning stove.

hatching chicks This week in incubator and under two broodies....12 LF and two dAnvers ....all under hens now to brood. Will be picking up another hatch at Carl's and have loaded both my incubators again, Have six bantam eggs that Miss Piggy and Spike laid...well she laid.
Five breeding pens are laying like crazy...LF Wyandottes and Cochins. The Bantams still slip an egg or two in each few days.
The laying hens are picking up in numbers too. All with natural light and red heat bulbs over the waterers in the hen houses.

dang, Cyn

it was mid 70's here, funny what a difference there is in the north and south ends of the state, looking at 80's all week here. Done got all the birds started. But it's been one of those years too, be like that a week, then 20
Does that mean you will be offering eggs soon?

yep pretty much booking orders now. Getting eggs from most of them now, just not many yet. Could do assortments any time, but for specific colors it'll be a few more weeks, but I am booking up quick...

getting one step closer to Buffs here again. The project birds from Keith started laying this week. Got more buff eggs in 7 days off them than I did in 3 years with the pure trio I had haha.. got them F1 to F1 right now. Plan to get the red roo over them here in a week or so. Wanted to get a few back bred to be sure I have some pure clean buffs to continue with... got blue eggs still haha

We heat exclusively with wood, JJ. The oak will make great firewood for next year since it has to age and this was a healthy live standing oak, not a dead one.

Check out our snow. This was earlier today. Now, we have several inches. Was supposed to be about an inch. Yeah, right.

I burn as much wood as I can to offset heating cost, some work involved but nothing warms you like wood heat. Oh and nice snow, it was 4 degrees here this morning. Can't complain it been a pretty easy winter, temp wise but I am ready for alittle warmer weather.

Our 1" has turned into at least 4" and who knows by morning? The forecast is now 3-6, depending on elevation. We've been as low as about 14* here this year so far, JJ. Hey, maybe I'll see some tracks in the a.m.! Snow has to be good for something.

This is our first actual snowfall of the winter, quite late, really. Usually, we get them beginning in November. Last year, we got ZIP.
