Three babies hatched and came home last night, and the other three eggs are all pipping! The other 3 hatching chicks will come home this evening. 100% hatch rate on shipped eggs! Aubrey, isn't this amazing? You must've sent some really fresh eggs, and the postal workers must have been gentle with the box.

Aubrey, I know that there are darker and lighter mille fleurs, but wow! Two of the three hatched so far are kinda light walnut-brown colored, but one is a very pale cream/yellow .. a pastel lemon-mirengue color with a distinct black spot on it's
Sorry, been gone off shore fishing since Thursday.

that's great to hear! Yes the dark chocolaty looking mille chicks is what a mille chick is suposed to look like. All the pale ones end up being the paler adults usually. The browner looking the chick down, the better show type you should end up with as an adult, at least color tint wise that is..... cant beat 100% with a stick though, so happy they did that good for you!

A better picture. One Dun quail is dark seal the other mauvish.
I just see one dun quail, the one in the front center. The other quail chick with the cheek color facing the camera is just a quail looks like.
They breed just like blues when bred dun to dun you get 50% dun and 25% khaki and normal black versions. Looks like you may have just got one of the normal black quail versions to hatch out of them. That or it will be one of the very dark duns, that looks dull black.
a single pic of them will help for sure though, hard to see much other than it's face. The one with it's back to the camera up front though is 100% for sure a normal looking dun quail chick.

Okay... now.. aren't they the cutest little darlings?

They peck, the drink, they even Moonwalk! I love my babies!

Questions: As a preventative measure, we're starting them on a wee bit of probiotics in the water. Anybody else do this?
Others have spoken of getting a super-teeny chick, but we've got a Baby Huey! (Light-blonde chick in foodbowl in last pic) Anyone else get a biggun?
Also, I wished to say:

Thank you Aubrey, JJ, Cynthia and everyone else who has been so informative to me about this breed. I so appreciate your guidance!

I start all my chicks on probiotics and electro lights 50/50 for first three to five days.

Hey there Danver, pleased to meet you!

Thank you for the guidance. I'm quite new to this, but I'm already in love with this breed.

I look forward to reading you more here!

We've put a bit of sand in the brooder, as per JJ's suggestion. They do seem to love that! I'm hoping that the sand plus probiotics in the water will help keep pasty butt at bay. However, we do have Vaseline on hand, just in case we need it. One little brown chick had no pasting yet, but some mess stuck to her fluff back there, so we softened it with Vaseline and in an hour we could g-e-n-t-l-y remove it without pulling any of her down out. I'll keep a careful eye

on each sweet little fuzzy hiney.

Aubrey, did I mention how much I love these babies?

I'm hoping that more people discover this breed. Easy on the feed budget, friendly, gorgeous colors, poofy-floofy beards, smaller space needs, and the clean legs are all attractive features for this breed. I'd love to hear more experiences of people who own and live with D'anvers.
