d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Cali Chick, that is so neat to hear! Very good PR for the breed to be so friendly. Especially surprising in tiny new chicks, too. Wonderful to hear this.

I'll have to post some pictures. They are sweet.

I think like any animal, the more interaction, time and training you put into them, the more they will respond to you. I formed this idea over 30 years ago when reading the "Little House on the Prairie" series. I respected how Pa would "gentle" his animals into submission rather than beating and forcing it out of them.

Cali Chick, we're on the same wavelength.

Your little peeps are so very furtunate to have such a caring owner looking after their wellbeing. We'd love pics when you have 'em!

I did find out that the babies I have are Belgian Quail D'Anvers. I am really happy. I have three and sure hope two hens and roo. That might be wayee too much to ask for since last spring when I hatched birds I ended up with like four to one roos!! Crazy odds. Maybe this is my year for pullets. I can dream.

yes JJ,
I'd take them back to bb reds if you have a really good type one. That's all that was put into them anyway bb red x cuckoo... so it should straighten them out... if not... hey if it bredds true name it! haha

and thought it was eggs too, will get to work on that, the bb girls finally started this week, so will get the pyle males back in there and get you some going

Rough day. We have to humanely put down our beloved lead hen, Pru, shown in the photo I last posted. She was born with an unusual congenital condition that we've been treating, but it isn't helping anymore. She was the first & only hen in our tiny flock to enjoy being held, being social with me, eating from my hand. A hen you could sometimes pet: just mindblowing to me. Enjoying the social contact. It's no secret this is why I want a D'anvers hen. Wish I had one today to hold. Rough day.

Aubrey, couple of chick pics from Birchen project pen. Silver Quail roo (maybe split to lav) and two brown red (looking hens I hatched from your eggs last year) Along with questions.

This one is out of the birchen project pen. Basically a black chick but has a little different look to his face, I think its silver. What does a birchen chick look like?

This one from same pen, I am thinking Brown Red?

Out of the same pen, No clue. Any Ideas?

birchens no matter the color are black as chicks, with red or silver tint to the faces, very hard to tell without seeing one first hand. I dont see the silvery face to it, but may be there sometimes you virtually cant see it in down fuzz.

The second certianly isnt, looks like a heavily melanized bb red to me. I have a few hatch like that too, never paid enough attention to see what they ended up as.

the 3rd kinda looks like a blue columbian?? has the stripes and they look blue, maybe lavender?? cant say for sure on him
