d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Can anyone enlighten about how old a mille fleur is when it starts getting the white that makes it actually look mille fleur? I've seen in some online photos that the mille chicks feather out to look sort of like a solid caramel-colored bird with some black here and there, and a black-edged tail, is that right? Or do some chicks feather out with a bit of white, right from the start? Maybe it's the first adult molt that they look recognizably mille fleur? Just wondering. Thanks

for any help (or photos ) of when the white may come in. I'm curious!

Here is another one out of the same pen. At first looks kind of quail but the down on hits head has red tips on it.

now aside from the quail cheeks, that's mostly what a brown red looks like. solid black body with the reddish tint especially around the face area of it.... those cheeks are the only thing off about the chick down on that one.

Wow, wow, wow! Thanks JJ, this really shows a good timeline for roughly about when the white may start showing up and later on "fully blooming," as it were. They're adorable at six months, but *gorgeous* at 10 months. The girls all have really great beards then, too. Your stock, like Aubrey's, has very nice beards, as I've mentioned before. I love seeing that, especially in the milles.Thank you for sharing these photos. You've got absolutely stunning birds!

a little tip on the milles, which you may have seen in earlier post too, you dont want the ones that are heavily mottled white white at a young age. They add more and more white threw their second year, so the less mottling as youngsters makes for a better end bird. Ones loaded with good mottling look great as young birds, but as they mature, they'll turn way too white over all.... goes the same for any mottled type color too

Yes,good point, that makes sense. I think maybe you or Aubrey may have mentioned that somewhere before. I won't be breeding, just finding a pullet to spoil, so if by chance she ends up more white, I'd be just as happy with that, too. I love how no two of the mille look alike. Some girls seem to have a miore dark in their beards, some more white, and in SpeckledHen's pictures, one girl had big spiots, the other smaller markings. Love the mille pattern!

I believe it's 9 or 10 more days until my chicks hatch and come home! I'm so excited. I have Probios probiotics, clean playground sand, and a bottle of Corid, just in case. I really appreciate all the guidance here!

It's been a few days, but here is a picture of my sweet D'anver babies...They are 3 or 4 weeks old. They love to be picked up and petted.
This looks like a pullet to me.
