d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Chickee, they are gorgeous! Congratulations! You've got great colors, too. What sweet little cuties! I'm so happy to hear that they are healthy and thriving for you. Very impressive that they already like to be held, even as new babies!

My hatch is over and I have 5 Darling chicks

Sadly only one of the buff Columbian eggs hatched. The other 3 eggs had fully formed chicks but died just before hatching

The 5 that did hatch are super cute and healthy, and love to be held

Aubrey~ I am assuming the Dun Cuckoo can be sexed by color? Both of these chicks are roosters by the yellow head spot?

From left to right~ Dun Cuckoo, Dun Cuckoo, Dun Quail, Dun Quail, Buff Columbian.

looks good, only one correction on the dun quail you got real lucky and both of them are khaki quail actually. The dun ones would of had the same body color as the cuckoos.

on the head dots, you can try to sex them by it. I cant remember which way it goes right off, but one sex tends to have a big bold white spot ( female I think) and the males ( again I think) have a tiny spot almost just a little hairy white strip instead of a full on spot...

At least that's how you sex most barred type chicks, never actually tried and watched to see on these...

I hope you are right on the head spots because that would make both the Dun Cuckoos pullets.

Thanks Aubrey!

I will have to take more pictures. I am so amazed to get not only one, but two Khaki Quail colored chicks!! On top of that, after reading Aubrey's post, I went back and looked closely at the two Dun Cuckoo chicks and I have a PAIR!

I am happy that I got at least one buff Columbian chick since Aubrey said I can breed those to my porcelains and get a percentage of buff Columbians, Porcelains and maybe even some Lavender Columbians!
