d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

"jumbled up mess of genes" might just describe my Tiny the Terrorist, the hatched-from-a-blue-egg, out of BBS Ameraucana parents, who came out with obvious Sumatra lineage, no beard, is aggressive, has decent spurs and lays a rather smallish to medium brown egg.

"but if they did, God you're getting into a jumbled up mess of genes then."

yep....

a little test breeding next spring will tell what you have. Just stay in touch and when they start breeding, I'll be happy to tell you how to pair them. Then post the results when they hatch and me or JJ can tell you pretty quick what all they have going in them.

the solid whites are the worst , it just hides everything.

You gave her eggs? I hope I can break up Maura, but if not, guess I'd try her on LF eggs. I really don't need more bantams, though I have a few of her own eggs saved up that might be fresh enough. Those would give porcelains for sure, for the first time ever. I can't separate her, though, and it's cold now. Teensy bantams running outside who are hardly larger than a quarter just don't seem right.

It is a little cold here this morning.
Bwahahahaha! Too funny! The bantam coop is insulated with plastic Walmart bags in the wall spaces and they have one red low light reptile bulb pointing at the middle of the high roost and one regular heat bulb hanging over the feeder, plus our homemade bucket water defroster that has a 40 watt bulb in it, so it radiates a tiny bit of heat in that floor area.

I guess they'd be okay if I gave her some eggs, but geez, I seriously didn't want more chicks this year. The youngest ones here are 9 weeks old and LF Delaware crosses, so chunky kids, no problem with the cold. On the other hand, the few hens I have who are butt naked are having some issues, poor things.
