We just don't let ours out in this weather. They bring in the wet back with them. It's bad enough that the air is making it so moist in the coops. And, I opened the door for them, but NO ONE wanted to step foot outside, neither Rex's group, nor Isaac himself. In fact, when he saw all the white, he wouldn't even approach the doorway, LOL. They do NOT like snow.

Had to raise up the bantam's ceiling on the pen from the underneath (it was really heavy, too) to let all the icy stuff slide off the sides since it was weighing it down. Will have to do it tomorrow, too, I'm sure.

Mine didn't stay out lo v and I had to carry a hen from the front of the house back to the barn. The sidewalks that were shoveled off are now covered again, but at least they don't have the slush that will turn to ice under the snow.

I hope someone can help me with this...I have an EE who lays a light brown egg...is this normal? She is the only one I have and she free ranges. Can a rooster help determine the color egg she lays by chance?

An EE is a mixed breed so any egg color is normal. Putting her with any rooster has nothing to do with her egg color. It will stay the same.

Surely someone can supply you with some true Ameraucanas. They all lay blue eggs. I am out of touch so can't think of who has some right now. You can try other EEs, and many do lay green or blue eggs, but to be guaranteed a colored egg like you want, going with a true Ameraucana would be one way to do that. I have some who are 6 years old and still laying. You have to get those from a breeder, though. Hatcheries sell EEs, not Ameraucanas as they try to advertise, though I think some of them may be getting the message that folks don't want their false advertising anymore.

I think one of our members, Dipsy Doodle Doo (Lisa) is in South Carolina and has Ameraucanas. Might see if you can contact her.
