HA! He earned those nicknames long before Rufus was cuddlized by me. Attacking his mama who feeds him, built him a nice coop and run to protect him and that is the thanks she gets, attacked by the small guy she brought into this world, raised and loved. I think Dr. Phil would classify that as disrespect of the highest caliber and very typical of the ungrateful youth that can often be found in today's society. He refuses to learn that respect is earned not a given right, the meaning of proper decorum or show any thanks to the woman who has protected him and provided for him for his entire life. He needs to go to therapy and Rufus is merely the therapist. He dishes out discipline with tough love and Rusty continues to behave like a heathen. One thing that can never be questioned about a Green Beret...they uphold the highest standards of honor, loyalty and integrity and Rusty would do well to learn the meaning of those three words.

The little toerag deserves to be tossed around the pen for behaving in such a manner to his mama. I too think Rusty will prevail and ultimately become a walkway for all good chickens to walk across, chickens who know how to behave themselves. As for ninja skills, I will put him up against my Sumo Kung Fu chicken any day and she is a girl!

*wonders if he knows I am married to a Green Beret and know of that which I speak*

looking that way aint it Cynthia! I have to be honest, I'm about to pee myself reading all this. When all the ninja and jealous talk came up. I instantly visualized this.

Picture Cetawin laying in bed asleep... with the little ninja creeping up on her (stealthy ninja like of course) for all the smack talk of his fatherly practices. She wakes up with him standing on her chest, little ninja sword drawn ( in his beak of course) With a note saying...whats all this crap I hear you been saying about me?... toe rag huh?... I'll show you a 1 pound menace...haaaya.

Haha, but seriously, kinda like JJ was getting at. For those new to the thread, ( God help you at this point!

) A feisty male is a plus in the barnyard just for the protection factor given to the girls. Last thing you want is a cat or something to sneak up on one of your broodies and get her cause the male tucked tail and ran... I'd prefer to see the cat get flogged by a 1 pound menace.

After rereading my earlier comments I feel that I must apoligize .....to Aubrey for using his thread as my personal soapbox to voice my opinions on the oppression an persecution of an honest rooster. That being said I still hold steadfast to my conviction that Rusty's only crime is being a rooster and acting like one. Is it a crime to stay true your heritage that began with the dinosaurs, passed through numerous carnivours birds, the red jungle fowl. I say it is a far worse crime being committted by Rufus to maintain the fasade of a mild mannered lap dog. Rusty is honest , you know what is coming. Rufus is devious and cunning, one day he will snap and become the modern day velociraptor that he is. There is alot of precedent for this behavior, off the top of my head I am reminded of a Ziegfried and Roys seven year old white tiger that without warning attacked and seriously injured Roy. I am not wishing any one any injury.. just saying stuff happens.

Omigosh, I may have to bring Rusty to the monitor so he can read all this for himself. Wait, no, can't go giving him any ideas! I'm betting even my sweet Rufus could dish out a good whooping on a cat, too, though. These little guys are on-the-spot ready to defend their women. They get all kinds of upset if you make one yell for any reason at all, then the ruckus is deafening!

Now hold on a blasted moment...Rufus is still head honcho and keeps all those boys in line and defends the women but like any smart male...he does enjoy a little chest rub and hug too and there ain't nothing wrong with that nor is there anything unmanly about it. Iffin ya think so then Rufus just needs to come live in Kentucky where he will be appreciated for is charm and leadership as well as being a mean son of a gun when called for.

We pause from the Rufus-Rusty Wars to bring you actual pictures of the combatants at roost time. The D'Anvers are 28 weeks old today. Reba, my elderly hatchery RIR, has decided that she will NOT use the old ladies' roost bar, that she is still a spring chicken and she will roost next to Rusty. Rusty, of course, is properly thrilled and happy to defend her position. I must, however, remove her from that spot and place her on a lower roost because, though she can get up there quite well, I fear that 5' is a bit high for an old woman to jump down from safely, so every evening, we pluck her off and place her where she ought to be, beside her pal, Sunny, who is her own age (which is still not the old ladies' bar, but I have made that compromise for them). I took my camera out to snap pics of the group and before I could transport Reba, I had to snatch her little pitbull pal off the roost and flip him around to fluster him so I could keep all the flesh on my arm and not drop her.

Rusty is in lurve with Reba-to his eyes, they are probably about the same color.

See Shadow back behind Rufus? She has returned to her Diva ways and will roost with them for warmth, but will not squat for any one of them, no sir. Men are entirely beneath her at her age, I guess. She lived with a LF BR rooster for ages and he never mated her, even when she'd squat in front of him, so I guess she had decided that she has lived too long without a man to accept a pint-sized hubby now. She hides behind Reba and Sunny out in the pen, LOL. Haven't seen those boys manage to get her yet, not once.

When Penny roosts, she looks like a feathered ball with a beak, LOL:

FAT AS MUD AINT THEY CYN.

Boy they sure have filled out nice, pretty darn good looking all the way around.

I see you had the menace up on the auction site too. Might want to edit some of this thread to help him along HAHA

Or just box him up and send him to Cetawin and tell her it's her beloved boy....
