d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

I have no new pictures to post, but my LF Silver Phoenix may be going broody. She was in the nest for most of the day and partially plucked herself. She went to roost tonight, but if she goes over the edge, I may allow her two BR eggs and one of her own. The weird thing is it will most likely be fertile by Aubrey, the porcelain D'Anver rooster. What weird child will those two produce?

But the good news is I emailed Art today and he has a couple he has a couple hens he will part with. Now if I could just find some millies,

Laura Lee best of luck with the hatch.

that good JJ
Art does have some nice quail. Try Tom Shepard for some millies, he may have a few to spare. Adam Cheaney had some last year, I got a few off him then, but I think Tom told me he sold all those off last year. They are the only ones I could recommend.

Cynthia, yep that sounds like one heck of a blend.
Would most likely come out columbian patterned, split to mottled and lavender of course, rose combed, bearded and maybe a medium tail lenght. Back breed them and you could get all sorts of cool looking birds, mainly in the various columbians, duckwings, and mottled. would be an interesting project for either breed

Good luck on the remainly 8 Laura Lee

I say cross the toerag with Shadow and see what that gets ya. *snicker*

Toe rang Mille over a Lavender cochin princess.

. Of course she will probably kill Rusty in the process but he could get lucky *smirk*

Funny you say that, Ladyhawk, m'dear. Guess who Shadow was snuggled up with at roost time? None other than the famous toerag, Rusty the Ridiculous! She has a thing for bad boys.

Definitions of toe rag

The definition derives from old England where convicts used to tie bits of shirt around their toes and feet as a make shift sock, hence "toe rag" means scoundrel, criminal, thief, indecent/unlawful person etc. It is sometimes seen spelled Tow Rag because the original context has long since been obsolete.

2) A useless person, often characterized by unpleasant demeanor. Derivation: the subject is about as high up the social ladder as a rag used for cleaning toe jam out from between your toes.

Need advice from the big head.

My little d'anvers hatched 9/27/11, how long till they can go to the coop? And do they need heat when they get out there? The quail roo is what I would say fully feathered, but the little blue is at least a week or two behind him, she still has lots of fluff.

Little egg babies still doing great!!

I keep heat on mine for 12 weeks, maybe longer if you are getting real cold now. In the summer you can cut it back to 8 weeks, but this time of year they'll need it at night still. I like to wait til they are at least 3/4 full sized too before I put them out. If they still have fuz like you said, I'd defiantely hold off and keep the heat lamp on at least at night
