d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

just before 1 today, we had a confirmed tornado less than a mile from me, and another on Doppler about 5 miles from me according to TWC. Already got over 6 inches of rain too in the past 6 hours and still going to be 12 hours or so before it stops. God I bet the bird pens are a mess, they are fully covered, but my whole yard is under about 5 inches or water... They are on a well slopped hill so it wont be standing there, but it has to be running threw them.... Lord what a mess I'm in for tomorrow getting them all cleaned out!!!

All the yard poop ought to be gone though ...

Good luck to everybody who is having the bad weather. I finished up my cold weather outside brooder to day and moved some birds out of the house. it is 8'x4' with two 4x4 pens under it to grow some birds in.( but I already have a couple of trios in them) I put sand on the floor of the brooder so it would be easy to clean. and the heat lamp is on a temp controler to help out the sweeter heater when it gets in the 30's and lower.Wanta see, here ya go.

Praying for those in the way of storms tonight!

That brooder looks really nice. Wish I was handy with building things like that.

Our Self Blue Rooster was Best of Breed in a show today. It was a new show they're trying to get going less than an hour away from us. There was a pretty good showing for the first time.

Congrats, Julie!

Great brooders, JJ!

These D'Anvers are really slow on this hatch for some reason. No idea why-temps were fine all the way through, no surprises. There is one pipped and six hatched, but remember, there were 15 total at Day 18. All candled with movement that I did candle (didn't do every one, just a few). Day 21 has ended. Only one of the LF birds is hatched, a BR x EE, and of course, the D'Anver/Lav Cochin babies. Here are some pics for you.

Oh that Cochanver in the center of first pic with that neck stretched out and stink eye is mine, it's already a troublemaker PERFECT....

They are so cute Cyn.

Cole, I have 8 under the broodies, 4 each. I'm about to set almost a dozen more D'Anvers and D'anver crosses, though most belong to Carly and Shadow since Aimee and Penny have been broody for a week and not giving me any.

I have 7 pure D'anvers in the brooder, one starting to zip in the bator, but I lost most of the eggs that were on the outer rows of the turner. That old Hova is being retired and stripped for parts. Those had to be cool spots because there is no reason all those eggs should not have hatched. At least my lone pure BR baby is alive in the shell.

I'm not really sure about a few others, pulled some, left a few that seemed to be still alive, including a Delawegger (June's, for LH), but since temps at the spot where they were checked were good all the way through, I'm blaming this one on this old Hova and pulling out my rarely used, but older model, Hova we got at a yard sale for the next hatch. It has less air space, which is less to heat up, though not as good when they hatch, since chicks are closer to the fan we installed in it, but it will do. It's in much better shape, only used 3-4 times, than my overused Hova that Tom gave me for my birthday in 2006.
