d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Aubrey, need some knowledge and or advice, So far from my silver quail project, I have 5 black pullets from SQ x white, I have blue silver pullets from SQ x splash quail (hatchery birds) and I have some silver quail pullets from SQ x gold quai ( good birds I got from Art)l. When I get the SQ eggs from you I know I will get plenty of roosters (I just got it like that) I am thinking I should keep these three groups seperate
and make selections that will take them all toward the same goal. Then after a period of time I can mix in a little new blood from the other pens. Or should I just put them all togeather and work from there. I have the same deal going on with my millies at some point when my other pullet starts laying I will have three different groups of them. How would you handle it?

JJ,
it's going to be best to breed each group back to what it it's counterparts or to another silver quail depends on what you want from it.
Just keep records of whos what and really you can do it either way. That recessive white in the blacks is going to be a bugger to work with those, just keep that in mind. You could end up witha rec white silver quail and never know it cause it's just going to be white. It'll be a pain in the butt to know what you have with them. The other will be easy though cause it will be visible for you.

Laura Lee

those look good. That smokey boy you like is a dun cuckoo, they are some of my best type birds I have actually, he turned out real good. Looks like some blue cuckoo too in there.
The old crele project didnt pan out on those though, just ended up with some black and leakage on color with them didnt we.
Still look good though.

I got your e-mail too by the way, just let me know on them.

DO,

Yours are going in the bator tonight too by the way.

Aubrey I think they are all just simply gorgeous!!! And I sent you a reply back. Have a great night all!!!

It's a her, the males look different. I got to keep the girls this year, so I will have something to work with next year. All you need is a silver quail rooster and Molly will make you some.

I have been thinking how to deal with the blacks. Take them back to the silver quail half the pullets should be silver quail, but half of those will carry recessive white. I will have to test mate to a White male and not use any that give white chicks. A lot to go through but it will get rid of the recessive white gene or am I thinking wrong?
