d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

D'Anvers are one of my top favorite breeds! I think I had more requests for them than any other this summer (for chicks). I have one pure hatchery pullet and two D'Anvers/Silkie crosses (both blue laced).

Took a few pics today. These are from 2 1/2 - 5 1/2 weeks old. Officially, the older group has 4 cockerels and 2 pullets in the pure D'Anvers.

First, one of the black Coch'Anvers that has almost no feathering on the legs and a more d'Anver-like body than the other one.

This weeks hatch has started. Got two blue quail out and a couple of silver quail and a millie pipped so far.

Oh, I tested all my chickens and mailed off my NPIP paper work. I have to take 30 birds to get AI tested.

Candled last night got 3 out of the dozen looking kinda iffy, but it's still early, gonna leave them alone and just keep watching. The rest have healthy looking little spider veins. That still leaves 3 of each color, which is great!! At least I'll still get some of all.

Yeah, I left the BBB ones I thought were bad in too. My eggs I thought were bad got pitched. You can always hope but pretty much as soon as you look at them you know. But good luck with them.

Aubrey! Without the cuckoo roo, all i had were silver quail & normal quail roos running with the silver quail, blue quail, porcelain & black mottled hens. So his parent could be silver quail roo & blue quail hen?

that's what I was guessing at
It's a blue gold quail cockerel
silver dad blue quail mom

weird chick color though

good to hear JJ and LL

Didnt do too bad for the ol shipped eggs deal there.
And yes JJ, that mix you mentioned would give you all of them.

will try to get you some more crele or bb's once I start with the pyles

Aubrey must be having too much fun fishing, JJ. He needs to quit playing and hang with us more, don't you think?

J/K!

Took a few photos more today. I see some white tipped feathers coming in on the backs of three of the older males, the ones that are going on 6 weeks old now, as you can see in the shot of them around the feeder.

Here is the #2 pullet from the older group. She is really tiny, one of Carly's kids. In the second pic down, you can see her in the center with Mina, the former eyeliner kid, on the right, and the lavender Coch'Anver on the left for size comparison:

This is the 3 week old D'Anver pullet with Penny; at least, I think it's a pullet.

haha,
I wish that were the case Cynthia, havent been yet.
It's all these eggs I'm having to deal with daily and the orders they go to. Work about 10 a day at my job
then an hour and a half to feed up
then a couple hours with e-mails, ebay, etc
for I know it it's 10 and I havet even ate supper yet... wearing on an ol boy

I'll try to make more time

oh and been getting up about 5:30 every morning for turkey hunting before work

JJ

on the buff, think rec white or lavender breeding

mate your black to buff, back cross the chicks, you should get a few buffs out of them, and should have a few reds
may take a second run, but you should get them on the back cross

Taken 'em back to the black again and repeat the process for type corrections... it's gonna take a lot of years.... 6-8 at least
