d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

haha love that southern chick thing Cyn!

and yep JJ I'm still here, took off last week from work for hunting. had to work a couple days this week, but will be right back at it after tomorrow.
Yep on the reds. That's about what I was thinking too. I know he had buff columbians, so I'm betting that's what he used to get these.
Plan on using those buff project birds to make 'em solid red, and continue with these red columbian looking ones as well. Oh and cant help but put them over a mille or two for red milles ... cant help myself

good Lord, $5!!!
Do they know how rare those are. Me and virtually everyone I know who breeds them sell them at $80 a pair or $40 each.... and cant keep enough at that rate either. I almost get that per egg on them  haha

when I run some on ebay ( when I have enough) they usually hit $6- $8 per egg on average....

Guess they didnt know what they were being offered. I'd keep them too if I were you

No and I spent forever explaining. Well Cynthia,s big spring hatch had an abundance of little boys and I brought home I think it was 11 or 15 or some number that made my husband cringe... most of them MF. So being from your lines I have been particular on who gets them. I am bad about not selling them to just anyone. I sold two to one local guy who is using them for a color project and 2 to a show guy...the others I have. Now girls I could have sold and pairs but not the bachelors. I was amazed how many people thought they would order them from hatcheries. I kept saying " Do you see a single comb or feathered feet?". Uh no "yes because they are not d'Uccle and you cannot order them". And folks who really liked them but wanted friendly cuddly birds and I would not lie to them and told they had little man syndrome as a whole. I am not a good salesman because I put potential buyers through the inquisition and will not sell a bird to just anyone or to a situation that makes me think they will not be cared for properly or housed safely. Hence I still have 6 boys from my Easter hatch of big stock to build a bachelor pen for. A couple of them are Suede grandsons and they will not just go anywhere for sure.

Yeah I am a rooster magnet. Hahaha

Found my Silver Phoenix hen dead this morning. Her 17 day old chicks were so upset and chilled some, but they did have a heat lamp so we didn't lose them. We gave them to Aimee, who is the quintessential broody and her two are only a couple of days younger so she seemed to accept them. I guess Molly was too malnourished. Tried to break her up for over a month and when she refused to give up, gave her two eggs. She was very thin, but was so happy with her two babies. Guess she was feeding them all of the food and just starved herself even though I had been giving them special stuff every few days in addition to the chick starter. She was such a good girl and way too young. I hope the little ones didn't become too chilled. Molly was already stiff when we found her.
