dark bluish green poop the past few days

hi, we have 22 chickens all of which seem healthy. the past few days i have been noticing bluish green poop. we have had these birds for a year and i have never seen poop like this before. any ideas? thanks, vinnie

probably just the color of something they ate. That's my first thought.

Are they acting ill or sluggish in any way? If not, i don't think i would worry.

My birds often have the deep blue-green poop (with the white urates on top) when they've been eating lots of weeds, grass, kale, or chickweed. I've never worried about it, as long as the green poop is not super runny - just sort of "stacked" or semi-solid - I think the blue green color probably comes from extra chlorophyll they're eating.

I fed my girls some leftover apple cider and cranberry sauce (wierd i know, but they've been stuck in their run in the rain and needed SOMEthing interesting to entertain them) and this morning fed them some red / purple cabbage.
ta da, dark torquoise poos. very blue green.
so i'm guessing it's something to do with the red veggies.

Yep, that's your answer! Red cabbage gives them the wierdest looking poo--freaked me a bit when I first saw it!
