Dark eggs

I was just wondering if there’s a reason why some chickens lay darker eggs then others. I feel like my red sexlinks and Rhode Island reds lay very dark eggs. Is it all about the individual hen or is it what they eat, food/minerals. Just something I was curious about.

My grandma used to tell me brown cows give chocolate milk...

It is just a genetic thing, and the colors will change with age, diet, time of year. When I say "change" I mean vary in shade or intensity of hue.

No, it's the two back udders that produce chocolate milk! The two front udders produce regular milk.
