I've only had my hens for a few weeks now, their FBCM's. We feed an organic, non-GMO feed and treat them with left over fruits and vegetables. I've noticed that their eggs have gotten lighter.... what would cause this? In chatting with someone else that has FBCM's, I noticed how dark her eggs were... I know most of it is genetics, but she said she feeds what people feed their blue egg laying hens to get bluer eggs. I'd like to find out what this might be? Anyone willing to share? I did read somewhere that free range and eating grass can darken up eggs. Ours are not able to be out of their pen much right now until we get our place entirely fenced in. TYIA!

It might just be age. Or like you said, genetics.Could be their diet. I dont know.

As long as it isnt messing with the taste of the egg , shell hardness/chalkyness , ect. , You shouldnt worry.

Dont try to make your chickens lay 'unnatural' eggs.

Good luck!

They're only 10 months old, so still young. :) Some days their darker, some days lighter....was curious and love to find those dark chocolate colored eggs!
