I lost a green quaker Christmas day, 2007 to a hawk! I know how upsetting it is. they are beautiful birds, BUT..............

I guess God made hawks for a reason but I wish they ate something else! I can only fly my pigeons a few weeks a year. Its always your favorites that they seem to get.
Interesting post from the florida person, was your quacker a free flying bird? That would be neat to have free-flying parrots in your yard.!

no, actually, Oatmeal was kept in a cage, although, she would jump down and walk along the deck in our back yard. She had done this for a year, and never did we have that problem! I cried so hard after my sons found her "remains" behind our house.

Sorry you lost your birdie. I used to have a quaker, it was the goofiest bird!! And smart! Up till then I had only ever had parakeets. The quaker was a new experience on me!

they are funny, and can be quite loud too, don't you think? Ya gotta love 'em though. She was actually hubby's bird, but we raised her from a hatchling. Our son used to work for a tree service, and when they cut back the palm, the nest came down, end of story....

She said some words and things, and her personality was really cute too. I do miss her. We have another one, and what a pain she is, sometimes I'd just like to bop her on the head to make her shut up!

I think that's the only thing mine knew how to say! "Shut up"!! I think it could say "stupid bird" too! I got mine at petsmart. It was about 7 months old, already weaned, and stuck in a cage. So it was pretty mean.

But Paulie was so funny! And a little houdini too! I had to get locks for the doors on its cage. I came home from work one day, and Paulie was walking on the floor in front of me!! Good thing the cat was too lazy to catch his own food!

how cute!!! They are cuties thats for sure. The shut-up thing is great. You know when they get going, what do we say "SHUT-UP!" Oatmeal said "pretty bird" "step-up", "WHAT" and a couple other things. My cats never bothered her either, she'd be walking on the deck and they'd pay not attention. Guess they new she was "family" , huh?

A red-tailed hawk came within one foot of taking away my parrot. The parrot was being held by someone right by the edge of the deck of the house. It happened to quickly. I was shocked and couldn't believe that the hawk had been that nervy!

Wow!! That is kinda scary!! I went out tonight to give all the dogs treats, and couldn't find the puppies anywhere!! I just knew something got them!! But they have evidently left their mama, and were hiding under some lumber.
