Das Hühnerhaus

Got the landscaping done. Couple of odds and ends and you can stick a fork in us. Also got the gutters up on one side. 3 tons of crushed rock and 40 landscape timbers... Lots of pictures, but I figured someone would appreciate. The 12" spikes were no joke... Lots of hammering involved.

Gutter downspout... And we need to add mulch around the tree.

Crushed rock raps around the back to the cleanout doors.

Congrats on that first beautiful egg!

Your landscaping look great. Have your chickens scratched most of the gravel out of where you put it yet?

I'd lay chicken wire over it to stop that. It may not look as good, but will save a huge amount of work in the long run, speaking as someone who has (had) pebble covered raised borders.

They haven't touched it at all yet. They run right past it on their way to destroying the mulched gardens :) Thanks for the compliment!

Nice downspout niche!
Wonders how those rocks feel on their feet?

Don't really care for the rock mulch thing, had it at one place I lived and it looked nice for about a year then filled with weeds, dirt and debris, was impossible to 'clean'.

Thanks for all the kind words.

aart, the rock is crushed limestone, so it doesn't really have sharp edges. I can walk gingerly on it with bare feet. Also, it's about 5 inches deep in most places, so plenty of space for dirt to seep down. Nothings ever really grown where we put the rock, so we'll see on the weeds. I hope it doesn't turn into a nightmare!

Also, were having more problems with the kids throwing the rocks than with the chickens bothering it... :)
