DAY 0... / Hatching has begun!!

Congrats on your first baby! I am anxiously awaiting my first batch of quail eggs...getting frustrated waiting actually... bator has been running for three days, and they still aren't here! I love your idea for your ice cube tray egg holder! I was trying to figure out what to use and dh came up with what I hope is a great solution... he took one of those huge heavy duty plastic bread trays that the grocery store uses (the kind with the little square holes in the bottom) and cut it 12X11 holes for me. fits the bator perfectly! How long should I let my shipped eggs sit before putting them in the incubator? They were supposedly fresh when mailed on Saturday.

Thanks Bill :) I woke up a few minutes ago (6:15am) and another egg had hatched! I'm so thrilled! Both babies are dark little fuzzy things it's just too cute!!!!

Hi Chefchik, you should let your eggs adjust to room temp for at least a day. Although I have heard of others just waiting a few hours. Personally I would wait the day so the eggs have settled. :) the first day they're in the incubator is day 0 and then you have roughly 16 days. But buttons quail eggs can hatch anywhere from 15 to 24 days. (other types of quail take 18-24 days), just depends on your bator and how it functions. :) Good luck with your eggs!!

nice love the dark coloring. keep us posted.

Thanks, I will keep you posted :) Priscilla's clutch is due by next weekend and every time I peek in there I somehow come aay with a higher number of eggs each time! at first I swear there was only 8, then I counted 9, and suddenly I'm seeing 12! Is she continuing to lay whilst brooding on her clutch?! Or will she continue sitting on the unhatched eggs till they too are ready?? Should I remove the hatched shells from her nest??
