I am the Walrus
Chirping
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Not new to poultry in the least bit. Wifey & daughter dragged me into the mix coming up on a couple decades ago now. Started off with a half dozen breakfast makers, then show birds. It manifested into the scale it is today. Never imagined it was possible, but with my wife, anything is possible.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I don't know. The numbers are rapidly changing on a weekly basis. My dear obsessed wife and I are small time breeders. The numbers go up and down rapidly this time of the year. There are maybe 100 in brooders alone. Hatch taken place at this moment. So plus 30ish??
Maybe 80+ breakfast birds/30 Breeder birds? I don't know the exact number. That is the "Crazy Chicken Lady's" dept. I am just here for the ride and to lend a helping hand (or 2).
Total number= too many.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Heritage breeds and custom crosses.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
My Dear Wife. She has been on here for a year or so, pushing & pushing me to get more involved...
So here I am. I'm mostly here as an observer and I will slowly find my groove. My wife is heavily involved in contribution to the site. I doubt I will ever make it to her level. I am here to learn a little more than I have picked up only with hands on experience. I have been reading some of the articles and find them very educational. That aspect has made me finally take the initiative to become a member.(and to stop the nagging. Haha)
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Most of my past hobbies are now on the back burner. The focus has been on becoming self sustainable by operating our small hobby farm.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am semi retired. Blessed with a mere supplemental income from hobby farm life. Worked construction most of my life until I went into Culinary Arts. I have a wonderful wacky wife , I have two grown offspring that I am extremely proud of and a grand child. They live local so the family is still close knitted.
Pets include cat/fish/dogs. Plus numerous livestock I really don't consider as pets. But my better half does.
Too many to list for the moment.
Anyway, I am looking forward to learning new things. Broaden my horizons & make the wife happy. I am mostly more of the lurking type.
Thanks for having me.
