I am a complete novice at this. Had a little look this morning not a very very dark room. Saw movement of something last night. Can’t really see movement today. Is that still ok?. Can’t make out a specific shape. Should I candle again tonight when it’s properly dark or leave it ?. Does candeling have an impact in development or yolk reabsoption?. Im starting to look at ordering bits for the hatch. Not sure if it’s a bit early ? Any advice? Thanks

Many peeps candle at day 8, and 18. Often when there are questionable eggs at day 8, they mark those with a marker, and candle somewhat later date.
It is probably better to leave eggs alone if you are not very experienced at it. If your eggs are totally clear on day 18, then it is suggested to toss those. You want to avoid egg popping, and contaminating incubator and making quite smelly as well.

Hello! I’m not super experienced with incubating eggs, but I can tell you that candling often can cause problems. You’re not always gonna see movement. Your egg is probably fine as long as you don’t see a blood ring, and the egg keeps developing. I wouldn’t check the egg again until day 15-18 before lockdown. The actual candling doesn’t cause the problem, but the temperature and movement can affect the eggs. Good luck!

I’ve candled quite a bit . Only have one egg. We picked it up from a hedge stall. My 8 year old was convinced 3 of them had a chick ! So we incubated. None in 2 and gave this third a little longer. I started with a home made incubator. Huge amount of effort ! Was very suprise did to see it developed as I had to substitute the electric blanket for a h. Water bottle and airing cupboard at night. Then we managed to get a titchy incubator. Here are some pics

If you cant drive, and get chick starter, then probably order some now so you have in 10 days. I would personally suggest using medicated . It prevents coccidiosis.
Another question. As my egg has been incubating upwards. Do I continue in this position during hatch? I was somewhere that this is how the chick has orientated and if I then move on to side for hatch could cause probs ? I’m getting some shelf liner and can tilt further at lockdown. Any suggestions?

The chick won’t start positioning itself for hatch until day 18. Typically you want to turn the egg to its side on day 18, but it can hatch standing up.
