Was given 15 runner duck eggs to incubate. Had one bad on the offset, another one was badly damaged in transit but all the others are developing as they should. (Thank you for whoever posted the wonderful pictures on what candled duck eggs should look like)

Anyway, its day 10 and one of the eggs developed a small hole. Not a crack. I couldn't figure out what would cause such a thing and candling showed everything looked right inside so I decided to wait and see.

For the next 24 hours all was still OK, then suddenly when I checked them and prepared to turn them, that ones shell was completely cracked all over as if it had been cracked in order to peal it.

I've removed this one as there's no repairing that kind of damage, but I'd like to know if anyone knows what could cause this to happen.

Thank you.

Candle it and see what’s inside. Or smell it. It’s possible the embryo died a while ago and the egg is rotting... in which case you want to take it out before it’s too late and it’s exploded everywhere.

I already took it out, I wanted to see if anyone knew what could have had caused this. I candled it and its development was good. No smell either. Its just a puzzle. Its sad as it wasn't dead. But there's no way it could have developed with the shell so damaged.
