Day 14 Marans

I have a black copper maran hen who is 7 months old. She lays the prettiest eggs, & she is a sweet girl. She’s beautiful. With the copper in her hackles & the black feather that shine the bluish-purplish colors within the black feathers. I don’t have any advice. Just wanted to say they’re lovely birds!

Oh that’s so good to hear. We’ll only keep a couple, I really wanted to raise these from chicks and my friend’s supply of fertile eggs was so generous. If we get a high hatch rate we’ll make a plan then- maybe offer some to new homes right away? Not sure yet. There are mostly BCM in the incubator but also Whiting True Blue and Silverudd.

Here’s a better representation- I dialed down the exposure setting and this looks more like what I see. Still exaggerated but yes, this, with cloudy-ier section (yolk?) in the middle.

I’m scared to leave them in and think I should bravely pull them.

Day 18 update
Okay, day 18. Candled, found one more BCM yolker, 3 WTB quitters, and 1 Silverudd quitter.

Into lockdown with:

15 BCM
6 Silverudd
3 Whiting True Blue

A little less than 24 hours from first pip we have our first hatch!
