Day 17/18/19 here... CHICK PICS!!

How will you handle the withdrawal?

My husband is already threatening to call Intervention about my chicken habit.

Another egg pipped, and the Orpington is making a little progress. The latest one has a crack an inch long in it, not the usual little round chip. Maybe it's an enormous chick that stretched and popped the shell open lol

I have a huge baby Orpington, and another on the way! Its made itself a kind of trapdoor in the top of the shell, and keeps peeking out at me.

One pipped then did nothing, so I helped it but it had died. Why do they pip when they haven't absorbed the yolk?

I dobnt know why they do that. I had one pip then die. Was it from Catalpa? The same thing happen!

Yes, Cynthia's aren't due until tomorrow. I'm not holding out much hope for the others from Catalpa, I haven't seen anything happen with them, although day 21 only started at 2pm. This hatch has been pretty uneventful and slow so far.

I've never had one actually pip and have an entire yolk unabsorbed, only a tiny bit of one, maybe. I dont know exactly why it would pip when it really wasn't ready unless it was running out of air and had to pip, if that even makes any sense.

It was a very big chick. It looked like most of the yolk was unabsorbed, but there was no blood in the blood vessels surrounding the chick.
