Day 18 is tomorrow!!

I've learned through my hatch that it takes awhile! Babies sleep or take rests during the pipping and zipping stage. If you hear less peeping and way less movement after a time you may have to help it out though. If you go to the top thread in the Incubating and hatching eggs section, you will find a "sticky" thread to read on intervention etc. Best of luck to you!!

I am afraid to go to bed tonight - I don't want to wake up tomorrow morning to a dead gosling. How long before we should intervene?
Thanks!

Yep, in Canada we are, but in Ontario where the weather is usually good this time of year. Monday it went up to 27 degrees celsius and was so humid. Today, it was 14 and very windy. Never know what it's going to be like anymore

My roo is a barred rock cross? (he's borrowed), and my girls are a special hatchery breed that we were not told what exactly was in them, but we figure some buff orps, white rock and something else. Have no clue!!

That is too cool...almost like opening presents seeing all the different and unexpected colors!!!

Sorry, hillbillymom, it really is stressful. I know I was up almost a full 24 hours with my hatch.....and haven't slept much since!!!! I hope everything works well for you. As for how long to wait, I did help mine, but I KNEW I had no choice. Otherwise, I think it is best to wait quite awhile.

It can take at least 24 hours from a pip to a hatch. If you see a membrane under the egg shell and it looks like it's drying out, you can moisten with some warm water using a q-tip, be sure not to get the area where the beak is wet though. This is my first hatch and I am just as nervous as you are!! Did you find the thread I was talking about?? It should help you some!

ShellieESterling, I'm up and waiting. Anything new. It's funny looking at your topic because tomorrow is day 18 for me.

I have a smell coming from the bator but can't tell which egg it is. Tomorrow I will check when I take them out of the turner.

Keep us posted.

My little brown egg's pips a little bigger. It looks like it might be drying out, but the chick is certainly alive and chirping. It's got a black beak... Now I have to find chick pictures and guess another breed.
No news on the other eggs. But Cadbury and Whitey are fluffing up nicely. Last night, I wrapped the brooder with a fleece blanket and the temp still dove to 85 degrees. Poor little things. I'll have to box them in I think.

Hooray for day 18 coming! I wish you the best of luck with your hatch and hopefully you've better numbers than myself!

I just posted a Chickie In Trouble SOS post... The little guys been the same for over 20 hrs and I dunno what to do. Looks like it's drying out but there's blood on it. It's breathing heavy and chirping.. Did it pip to early or did it hit a vein or something? It's not making ANY effort to leave it's shell... matter of factly, it looks VERY cramped in there.
