Day 19. Anxiety

Pics
This little face! Good thing I checked the coop this morning. One of the broodys kicked him our from under her. He was almost dead from being cold but now hes on my lap with a heating pad. The hen is a new mother. I'll put him back under another broody in a bit. He’s starting to chirp n scoot around. :love

You're okay... I actually CRIED at my first little 2 eggs hatching!! lol (I have this on video!)

... And don't worry if you only have ONE. That happened to me after they were a couple of weeks old. I had put them out with a hen who was raising them. I went to town one day and came back to find them escaped thru the chain link fencing.. (OUTSIDE coop) and one was stuck in sticky weeds and did not make it.

I pampered and babied that last darn chicken (SIlkie) who became "Peepers" and it took me MONTHS to get it re-acclimated to being a chicken! She lived in the house in a small pink doggie carrier, with a Beanie Baby Turkey and a mirror. (That really helped with the 'peeping'). She would follow me all over the yard, ignoring the other chickens. Peepers got her own little coop, and was introduced to a couple of other babies.

It was a fun experience and OH.... She even had a 'chicken diaper'. YOU CAN DO THIS!! lol :)

I currently have Silkie eggs due to hatch in the incubator in 9 more days, and 6 collected and waiting to go in too! ARGH... This is my second hatch ever. :) We're okay.. BREATHE... :) 2016-05-19 001 064.jpg

That is adorable! I want a Peepers! OMG I want my babies so badly. I am technically only just into day 21 (after remembering I set them in the pm) so probably shouldn't be stressing but they are doing nothing. Zilch. I am cheeping and dancing and checking the temp/humidity every 3 mins but there's nothing happening. You're right - breathe. I am going to get a cuppa before I accidentally open the gin.

How many silkies have you got in? I am due to set another 12 tomorrow - and because I couldn't wait I ordered a 2nd Brinsea inc. 😝 :jumpy

Ohh I want a Brinsea! I have a Hovabator 2370 that I have my Silver Laced Polish in right now.Really like that bator. They r due on Saturday. Then I have the cause of ALL my sleepless nights lately...Little Giant 12300. That’s what my Silkies r hatching in. It is the bane of my existence!

I just candeled again and only have 4 viable and I put in the 6 new/fresh ones. This give me ONE WEEK to get my act together!! lol Cause I'll be on lockdown with the 4 to hatch Sat. and ?? guess I'll have to get another little incubator to put the 6 new ones in to stay warm for three days.. then Back in the big one. LOL (Unless someone has a better idea!)

Gin.. YES.. when all else fails. :):)

I have 4 mostly Grown Silkies right now. I got them about a month ago and drove ? 3.5 hours each way to pick them up. And..we will NOT talk about how much they cost. But.. they're good ones. (supposedly) One little rooster and 3 little hens.

I refurbished an unused goat house (long story) and turned it into a 2 story coop for them, but the poor little previously caged things won't go up the ramp. I keep hoping. I guess I can use the upstairs for the brooder?

What chickens do you have?

OH... and.. you can just go about your business with the Gin. If you pass out, the PEEPING will wake you up!!!! Once those eggs get started it's amazing. Noisey and wiggly. Keep us posted!

What's the problem with your incubator?
So compared to my Hovabator, it’s impossible to keep humidity and temps stable. Just so I could use it for a Hatcher and get the temp as best as I could, I have a blanket wrapped around it and a towel over, making sure the vent holes are exposed though. Even when I remove the towel on top of it to look inside, the temps drops immediately. I have put 4 calibrated hygrometers in Different spots in it and they all read different. I tested and tested it before I put my eggs in it for lockdown and that’s how I found out just how temperamental it is. I’ll still use it for a Hatcher, since I drove myself to the brink of a breakdown, figuring out all its quirks but I wouldn’t trust it for incubation with all the fluctuations. And then there is my wonderful Hovabator that keeps humming along without a problem in the world.👍
