Day 2 nervous as heck

Hello group
I'm new here

I started with 20 eggs. 4 were bad. 16 went in the incubator on day 1. I candled yesterday at 24 hrs. Found 4 eggs with cracks. Tossed em.
Today I'm down to 9 eggs b. of cracks and leaks.
2 of the remaining eggs are so dark when candled I cannot see anything. They might as well be rocks. Some eggs I think 3 are very splotchy - the web says they are porous. The remaining 4 have yolks.
This makes me so nervous ! I hate waiting and am expecting failure but ... Ill keep trying. I'm anxiously waiting for Sunday /Monday - day 7

I think my eggs weren't properly handled before I got them ... Which would have really helped, right.

I have 2 two month old hens right now. They just started grower 9 days ago. I just want ill eggs and chicks too !!

It does sounds like the eggs got handled a bit rough before you got them. Were they shipped? It's a bit late now, but in future if you have hatching eggs with cracks, as long as the crack is not too severe and the membranes are intact, you can seal the cracks with birthday candle wax and incubate the eggs as normal. Birthday candle wax melts at a lower temperature, so they are ideal for fixing eggs.

Fingers crossed you'll get some chicks from the remaining eggs! Keep us posted?

Today that spot on the egg has moved to the side. hmm.. all the others are clear still but it hasnt been 3 complete days yet.

tomorrow i am going to a local feed store and seeing if they have incubators and what prices and stuff... for next time.
