I have two buff orps and 2 RIR hatched. At least on more of each of these is pipped. Two silkie eggs have pipped, but nothing much happening. The one silkie egg I messed with ended up with a dead chick, I feel so bad.

I'm hoping all the pips hatch. I know all six silkie eggs were developing as of two days ago. I'm wishing hard, and hoping hard. All four of the hatchlings are doing well.

They are so cute!!!!!

I'm up to six babies now, on day 21.

3 buff orps out of 4 eggs that were good on day 18
2 RIR out of 5 eggs good on day 18 (I think I have one that pipped and died

)
1 silkie out of 6 good eggs (one for sure is dead, so 4 left)

The silkie pipped early yesterday and hatched this morning so I have hope for the other silkies. Two of the silkie eggs are pipped and quiet but so was the one that hatched today. One RIR is pipped but I haven't seen movement in the large hole, so I suspect the worst. The kids have been naming as fast as they've been hatcing; actually faster so we have Buffy, Ice Cream and Butterscotch the buff orpingtons, Willow (dad's suggestion) and Nugget the RIR and the silkie is Taffy. I think these kids had to many sweets for Christmas.

I got a new camera for Christmas, finally moving to digital. I'm still figuring it out but I'm hoping to get pictures, learn to load them onto the computer and post them. I'm something of a Luddite when it comes to technology. But I do want to show off my pretty babies. Bright yellow for the orpingtons, darker yellow for the silkie, probably from that dark skin; and light brown for the RIR. SO CUTE

Got another silkie zipping, they seem be to pipping and then resting for 12-24 hours before finishing the hatch. The two RIRs that hatched were very businesslike about; pip, zip, hatch, hello world. Still hoping for two of the RIRs, as today is day 21. I thought everyone would be late because after adding the eggs it took about three days to get the bator back to the right temperature.

That is so exciting, and I thought finding my first eggs was
exciting. To actually "grow" chicks is unbelievable.

Good luck Grandma

Current count

2 silkies
2 RIR
3 Buff Orps

I have one silkie pipped, and waiting. Two silkies unpipped, two RIR unpipped and one BO unpipped. This is approximately 50% of the ones that made it to day 18. I'm pleased since it is my first hatch, with a homemade incubator, and shipped eggs. One of the eggs even arrived broken so I know they did not have the easiest ride here. 15/21 made it to Day 18.

I forgot how loud chickies are. I can hear them downstairs even with the fan in the incuator running and the heat. Makes me happy becasue it must mean they're strong.
