day 20 - no signs...

Opening the bator is not going to kill the chick!

Only making the point because they did the float test on the others, so opening the bator has already happened.

@tjb the pipped one in the last pic looks fine for now. Try to be patient until its pushing the 24-hour mark from when it first broke the shell. Unless it looks to be struggling, or totally stuck, try and give it some time. Its got a nice big hole to breath through, so there is no suffocation danger to worry about.

Good luck!
thanks... I am pretty much at the 24 hour mark. guess I am just really not wanting to lose my first chick. Patience has never been my strong suit.
I don't want to miss a critical moment when I need to do something and then lose the cute little thing.
WV I think it's 26 hrs since pip.
pipped at 10:30 am yesterday...

Is it still the same?

I'd probably chip off the end of the shell from the air cell end. Check the membrane by moistening it with Vaseline or coconut oil. Look for red veins. make sure its beak is free and lube it up real good. If the membrane doesn't have any veins, you can peel it away also. If there are veins, leave it like my pic below. Put it back and wait for it to kick out of the shell on its own.

But be ready to catch, because it might just kick out in your hand!

this one was just a couple days ago. It's now my new avatar pic :)

This is what I found... I do not see any veins... will this do for now?

Looks a bit dry, but good! You can leave it like that for a bit, or you can chip a little more away. Either now or later you will have to chip off enough that it can just push right out when its ready. (it won't have anything to press against to make the normal zip on its own)
